WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

WAUSAU — A 42-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he met on a dating app, who told police he sexually assaulted her after she fell asleep at his home.

Dale Homann met the alleged victim in January after the two connected on Plenty of Fish, a free online dating and matchmaking site.

Police say Homann and the woman were watching a movie at his Auburndale home Feb. 15 when the woman fell asleep. When she woke, she was allegedly being assaulted by Homann.

The woman told police she asked Homann to stop, but he refused. Homann now faces felony charges of second degree sexual assault of an unconscious person. He appeared Monday in Marathon County Circuit Court, where a judge set his bond at $5,000 cash.

Homann, who faces up to 40 years in the Wisconsin Prison System if he is convicted of the single charge against him, remained jailed as of Tuesday morning.

Court records show Homann has one prior conviction on his record in Wisconsin connected to a 2008 animal mistreatment case. He was convicted of intentional mistreatment of animals in 2009, spent one year on probation and paid about $1,800 in restitution to the family of a dog that died.

A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 27.
