WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

WESTON — A report of an armed man prompted a heavy police presence Thursday in Weston, according to the Everest Metro Police Department.

A Wausau Pilot and Review reader sent the newspaper video footage of about six squad cars in the parking lot of a business at 4204 Schofield Ave., which was captured at about 6:10 p.m. Friday. An officer can be heard on the video asking a suspect to step out of his vehicle with his hands in the air.

Wausau Pilot and Review contacted Everest Metro Police Chief Clay Schulz, who said the man was experiencing mental health issues and was taken into custody peacefully.

“He did have a loaded gun in the car but he was cooperative with us,” Schulz wrote, in an email to Wausau Pilot and Review. “All ended well.”

The man’s name was not released.
