The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Marathon County as a band of mixed precipitation approaches the area.

Weather officials say the storm will start with a wintry mix that will gradually change to snow later in the day on Saturday. Expect between 4 and 6 inches of snow to fall before the system passes.

The advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday until 1 p.m. Sunday.

The wintry precipitation will make for hazardous travel conditions. Several communities have issued snow emergencies in the area for the advisory period, prohibiting all street parking.

A winter weather advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads with limited visibility and use caution while driving.
