WAUSAU — A 40-year-old Wausau man is back in prison after police discovered about a dozen sexually explicit images he sent to a 10-year-old girl via Facebook messenger.

Jeffery Wendt was released in April from Oskhosh Correctional, where he was serving time on charges of battery and intimidating a victim, and was on extended supervision at the time the new allegations were made.

Police say an investigation began in December when they received a report that Wendt sent about 12 images to a female relative, who reported the images to her mother. After an investigation prosecutors charged Wendt with exposing a child to harmful material, a felony. Wendt on Feb. 26 was returned to the Wisconsin Prison System; official charges were filed Tuesday, March 12 in Marathon County Circuit Court.

Wendt has a lengthy criminal history that includes convictions for criminal damage to property, victim intimidation, resisting or obstructing an officer, and multiple charges of battery.

A date for an initial appearance has not yet been set.
