New events added March 15: Marathon County Public Library activities

The Marathon County Public Library will host several events in the coming weeks at its various libraries.


The library will offer a free class on Google resources, such as Google Docs, Google Slides and more, on March 18 from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. A second, identical session of the class will be held March 19 from 6:30-8 p.m. Free, but registration is required. Call 715-261-7230 to register.


UW-Extension Horticulture Educator Brianna Wright will talk about how to grow microgreens indoors and the health benefits of them on March 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Free. For more info, call 715-261-7230.

The library will offer an informative event for teens and adults interested in submitting work to literary magazines on March 18 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Marathon City Branch, 515 Washington St., Marathon City. Free, with registration required. Call 715-443-2775 for more info or to register.


Residents of the Edgar area can apply for a U.S. passport locally during a special one-day event on March 18 from 3-7 p.m. at the Edgar Branch, 224 S. Third Ave., Edgar. Appointments will be taken by calling one of the library’s passport acceptance agents, who can also tell you what to bring to your appointment. Brianna Wright, horticulture educator for University of Wisconsin-Extension Marathon County, will talk about gardening techniques that allow folks to garden at any age or level of ability on March 20 from 6-7 p.m. at the Edgar Branch 224 S. Adults can learn about the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, then practice the techniques they’ve learned, during an informative event on March 20 from 6-7 p.m. at the Rothschild Branch, 211 Grand Ave., Rothschild. Free. For more info, call 715-359-6208.


Learn about new horticultural techniques in container gardening during a free event on March 21 from 5-7 p.m. at the Rothschild Branch, 211 Grand Ave., Rothschild. Attendees can ask other gardening and horticulture questions, too. For more info, call 715-359-6208.


NEW! The library will offer a Harry Potter-themed escape room for teens and adults on March 25 and 26 from noon to 5 p.m. each day at the library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. NEW! Visit the library to watch a 2018 film that was named Best Picture at the Academy Awards! MCPL will screen the film, starring Viggo Martensen and Mahershala Ali, on March 26 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Rated PG-13. Kids, tweens, teens and adults can submit written works focused on stories and memories of the village of Marathon during “Marathon Memories” essay contest, running through May 31. Awards will be presented in each of the four age categories.
