Esther Mary Mohr, 89, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Esther was born on Oct. 6, 1929, in the town of Stettin. She married Joseph Mohr on June 19, 1948. Joe and Esther raised their family in the town of Marathon where they farmed for many years. She was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Parish and a proud member of the Foresters.

Esther loved to sit on the porch, listen to the birds and watch the world go by.  She really enjoyed planting her flowers in the spring and took great pride in her numerous flower beds. She also enjoyed going out for breakfast, doing word search, jigsaw puzzles, and visiting with the many friends and family who would drop by. Esther always had an open door, welcoming everyone with her “The more the merrier” policy.  She was Grandma Mohr to so many!

Esther was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and son Dennis; her parents, Viola and Reinhardt Stahel; siblings, Lydia Werner, Norman Stahel, Selma Evers, and Leona Teske; and sons-in-law, Frank Wisemore, Bill Wagener and Charlie Malmberg.

Esther is survived by her children Virginia Wisemore, Cleveland, Texas; Phyllis Wagener, Broomfield, Colorado; Josephine (Dennis) Stefonek, Irma, Wisconsin; Carol Malmberg, Hudson, Wisconsin; Mary (Mike) Wagener, Plymouth, Minnesota; Bob (Deb) Mohr, Wausau, Wisconsin; James Mohr, Marathon, Wisconsin; Sue Weith, Edgar, Wisconsin; Joseph (Kris) Mohr, Merrill, Wisconsin; and Lynn (special friend, Putzer Westfall) Mohr, Marathon, Wisconsin; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by siblings Merlin and Melvin Stahel, Verna Baneck, Lois Hermans, and brother-in-law, Ray Teske.

Services, presided by Monsignor Joseph Diermeier, will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Marathon, Wisconsin, on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service starting at 9 a.m.

Esther, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Angela “Annie” Mroczenski

Angela “Annie” M. Mroczenski, 67, of Edgar died unexpectedly on Monday, March 18, 2019.

She was born Feb. 18, 1952, on the family farm in Milan, daughter of the late Clarence and Stella (Syring) Wogernese. On April 23, 1983, she married Gary Mroczenski at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. He survives.

Annie was a homemaker throughout her life, and was a wonderful and loving, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a talented cook and baker, often creating her own recipes and dreamed of writing her own cookbook someday. When the opportunity arose, she would happily drop off baked goods and food for others. Annie had a degree as a master preserver because she wanted to pass on her knowledge of cooking, baking and preserving food for generations to come.

Among her favorite pastimes, she liked gardening and growing things. Annie was a very caring person who was devoted to her church, family and friends. She loved to share her knowledge of her Catholic faith with others, including teaching CCD classes for over 20 years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her loving husband, Gary; four children, Patrick (Diane) Kreft, Edgar, Kristi (Michael) Lauterbach, Appleton, Gabrial (Shawn) Schroeder, Marshfield, and Robert (fiancée Miranda Kramer) Mroczenski, Marshfield; seven grandchildren, Kira, Kaylee, Taylor, Allison, Layton, Xavier and Alyssandra; 11 siblings, David Wogernese, Dennis Wogernese, Bonita (Jerry) Horacek, Charlotte (Delmar) Schug, John (Mary) Wogernese, Thomas Wogernese, Mary (Jim) Shinkan, Janice (Rick) Nowack, Joseph (Lana) Wogernese, Joy (Dave) Mosure and Laura (Mike) Rudolph; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Cindy Wogernese and Carol Wogernese.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. Rev. Thomas Huff will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Anna Schmidt

Anna Leider Schmidt, Wausau, Wisconsin, died at Pride TLC Therapy and Living Campus, Weston, Wisconsin, on March 17, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Anna was born April 6, 1924, in Birnamwood, Wisconsin, to Charles and Anna (Prelipp) Leider.

She married Bernard G. Schmidt, of Wausau, Wisconsin, on July 17, 1945, in Seattle, Washington.

She is survived by her four children, Coreen Poeske, Wausau, Wisconsin, Bernard (Marcia) Schmidt, Wittenberg, Wisconsin, Gail (Dr. Harry) Momont, Madison, Wisconsin, and Diane (Dr. Raymond) Podzorski, Fitchburg, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Heath (Missy) Poeske, Jason (Leslie) Poeske, Jennifer (Nick) Halsey, Heather (Neil) Jacobson, Holly (Matt) Reif, Daniel (Dr. Farah Kaiksow) Momont, Dr. Anna (Ariel Molvig) Momont, Sarah Podzorski and Hannah Podzorski; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three brothers, Charles, Arthur and Raymond Leider; five sisters Viola Schoenike, Velda Sengstock, Dorothy Zwirschitz, Mildred Kuehne, Lorraine Zander and son-in-law Roger Poeske.

The funeral service for Anna will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Phil Larson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Entombment will take place at Restlawn Mausoleum, town of Texas. Anna began work at the Daily Herald after graduating from high school, then Marathon County Savings and loan until she moved to Seattle, Washington, to be married. Upon returning to Wausau, she worked as an accountant at WSAU Radio and eventually television in the “mansion” downtown until 1960. She finished her work career at the Woodson Foundation.

Anna is the foundation of a family raised on generosity and kindness, the heart of a home whose warmth and traditions will never be forgotten, and the source of a legacy of love that will live on in all of those who knew her.

Ronald Johnson

Ronald M. Johnson, 83, of Wausau passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Our House Assisted Living, Wausau. He was born on Jan. 10, 1936, in Wausau to the late Milburn and LaVerne (Gehrke) Johnson. On Nov. 11, 1972, Ronald married Shirley K. Dey in New London.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked as a laborer in Wausau. In his free time, he enjoyed taking care of his yard and was always ready to play a game whether it was a board game, cards or basketball and baseball.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of 46 years; son, Paul (Angel) Johnson, Woodruff; three granddaughters; nine great grandchildren; sister JoAnne Hodgson, Mequon; sister-in-law Karen Hodel, Manawa; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Lou Weise. Per Ronald’s wishes, he will be cremated with no attending services. His wife and family would like to thank everyone who helped over the years or just remembered to say a prayer.


Evelyn Wege
Evelyn Emma Lena Wege was born June 16, 1915, in the town of Larrabee, Waupaca County, near Clintonville, to Gustave and Marie (Ehlert) Wege. She died on March 18, 2019, at the age of 103.

The family moved to the village of Pella in 1920 to own and operate a cheese factory; her family moved to Norrie when Evelyn was in the fifth grade to a bigger and better cheese factory. She graduated from Norrie Public School, Wittenberg High School, class of 1933, and Marathon County Normal in Wausau in 1934. She graduated with a two-year degree in rural education from Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point. She taught rural schools in Marathon County for eight years. She spent one year in Milwaukee working for International Harvester making war supplies.
On Oct. 7, 1944, Evelyn married Carl Jacobson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Birnamwood. Evelyn was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church (formerly First Lutheran Church) in Wittenberg after her marriage. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid (now Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America). Evelyn also taught Sunday School for many years, served on the church council and was secretary of the congregation. She did quilting at the church and Homme Home, was a member of the Just Us Girls homemakers club, the Elderon School PTA and the Elderon Hattitude Club. Evelyn worked as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher in the Wittenberg School District and then was a dietary aide at Homme Home until her retirement.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carl; grandson, Nels Jacobson and siblings, Leona Genrich, Meta Krause and Ervin Wege.
Survivors include daughters, Arla (Bradley) Block and Jean (David Nelson) Jacobson; sons, Alan Jacobson, James (Jane Opper) Jacobson, Charles Jacobson, John (Lynn McGauly) Jacobson and Glenn (Karen Frederick) Jacobson; grandchildren, Nathan (Audrey Crapain), Jared, Mathew, Leah (Mike Centanne), Hannah (Paul Van den Huevel), Carly, Jacob, Jessica (Ivan Weilander), John and Angela (Justin Bembenek) and great-grandchildren, Nico and Mira Centanne, Romy Jacobson, Gates Bembenek and Quinn Weilander.
Per Evelyn’s request, a private family service was held.
