Vilas County Sheriff’s Department officials say they were called at about 7 p.m. Wednesday with a report of a snowmobile crash on Found Lake Road.

A preliminary investigation shows a 62-year-old St. Germain man was headed west in the eastbound lane of the road when he hit a vehicle in the eastbound lane.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene.

Police say speed appeared to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation at this time.

WJFW reports the death is the 19th snowmobile death this season statewide and the first in Vilas County, according to the Wisconsin DNR.  Fifteen people died in snowmobile crashes during the 2017-18 season.
