A Crandon school band teacher admitted to police he planned to meet up with a 15-year-old girl for sex this week, according to court documents obtained by WJFW.
Alexander Valentine, 27, faces charges of attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child and using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. The charges were filed April 2 in Oneida County Circuit Court.
Court documents show Valentine sent sexually explicit messages online to a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl. Online messages evolved into text messages, and a plan to meet up for sex, police said. Valentine allegedly asked the teen if she had any friends interested in joining in their planned sexual activities. The two continued messaging even after Valentine was repeatedly reminded that the girl was 15.
But the “teen” was really an undercover Oneida County agent, according to the WJFW report.
Crandon school officials on Tuesday sent parents a letter notifying them of a decision to place Valentine on administrative leave pending the investigation. During police interviews, Valentine, who taught middle and high school band students in Crandon, claimed he never had inappropriate contact with any students.
An investigation into those claims continues.
During an initial appearance Tuesday, Circuit Judge Michael Bloom set a $10,000 cash bond for Valentine and prohibited him from having any contact with children younger than 18. Valentine is also banned from using the internet, according to online court records.
Valentine, who faces up to 60 years in prison if he is convicted on both charges, is free on bond.
