TOWN OF PINE RIVER — One person was seriously injured after a two vehicle crash Thursday morning in the Town of Pine River, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

A patrol truck from the Lincoln County Highway Department reported the crash at 7:34 a.m. on Hwy. 51 south of Hwy. 42 near Merrill. The investigating deputy determined that a southbound SUV driven by a 70-year-old Marinette County man turned into the path of a second southbound vehicle in the opposite lane, according to a news release.

The Marinette County man was trapped in his vehicle and was extricated before being flown to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for what is being described as serious injuries.

The second vehicle, a Ford F250 pickup truck, was being driven by a 36-year-old Merrill man. The Merrill man, and his 7-year-old passenger, were not injured, police said.

Hwy. 51 was closed for about 90 minutes due to the crash.

Responding agencies included the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Merrill Police Department, Lincoln County Highway Department, Merrill Fire Department and EMS and the Pine River Fire Department and First Responders.
