WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

A high speed chase that began in Marathon County ended in a fiery crash injuring two teens who are now hospitalized at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

The chase began Friday morning when Marathon County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a vehicle at the intersection of Hwy. 52 and CTH J east of Wausau. But the driver of the vehicle fled, crossing into Shawano County at about 10:30 a.m., according to police.

At that point, Shawano County deputies chased the vehicle with speeds reportedly topping 100 mph —  until the vehicle crashed about 15 minutes later near the intersection of Hwy. 45 and Norrie Road in Eland, officials said.

After the crash, the vehicle caught fire and two teens were transported to Aspirus for treatment of injuries that do not appear life threatening, according to officials.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash. The gender, age, and names of the teens involved have not been released.
