Madison, Wis. – WPR.org will live stream the 15th annual State of the Tribes address on Tuesday, April 9.
At 1 p.m. TuesdayTehassi Hill, chairman of the Oneida Nation, will welcome members of Wisconsin’s 11 native tribes and deliver this year’s address from the State Capitol.
Hill was elected chairman in 2017, following two terms of service as a council member and member of the Oneida Business Committee. As chairman, Hill’s guiding principles are focused on a long term vision of sustainability, with a focus on sovereignty, the Oneida language and culture and traditions. In his address, Hill will emphasize the shared values and traditions of Wisconsin’s native tribes and their commitment to building on its relationship with the state. “Wisconsin Tribes have a long and proud history of working hard to provide for our communities, protect our resources, and foster goodwill by building alliances and friendships with one another, we are honored to strengthen this relationship with the State of Wisconsin,“ Hill said.
WPR’s live coverage of Hill’s address will be available at wpr.org, where it will also be archived for streaming and download. Wisconsin Public Television’s Wisconsin Channel will air a re-broadcast on April 9 at 11 p.m.
Born and raised on the Oneida reservation, Hill graduated from Oneida Nation High School and studied business administration at UW-Green Bay. He operated a successful industrial, commercial and residential painting company for six years. Hill and his wife, Michelle Kanatihal-Hill, enjoy being active in their community and spending time with their eight children and nine grandchildren.
