WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

UPDATE: Fire crews continue to fight a blaze at a west side Wausau laundromat, nearly 12 hours after the fire broke out.

The fire was called in at about 3:36 a.m. at the Rainbow Coin Laundry, 210 Clark St., according to the Wausau Police Department. When firefighters arrived, flames had spread through the walls and into the ceiling, officials said.

As of 2:25 p.m., the roof of the building had collapsed. Two fire engines remain on scene with more than a dozen support vehicles, according to a Wausau Pilot and Review reporter at the scene.

The blaze also spread to a nearby building that houses a flower shop and forced a nearby gas station to temporarily shut down.

Police say the nature of the fire is under investigation.

Traffic is being detoured Tuesday in the immediate vicinity of the building and motorists are urged to take an alternate route. South Third Avenue is closed from Elm Street to Stewart Avenue.

No injuries have been reported.
