MARSHFIELD, Wis. — Two people are in custody in connection with the death of a newborn child whose body was discovered wrapped inside a tied plastic bag, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.
In a news release, sheriff’s officials said they were called at 10:11 a.m. on April 6 to Marshfield Medical Center for a report of a possible missing newborn child. Officers searched the parking lot and discovered the child, whose body had been wrapped in a bath towel and placed inside the plastic bag, inside the rear cargo area of a vehicle.
The vehicle had been operated by the child’s father, 19-year-old Allen Rice, police said.
According to the news release, the child was inside the vehicle for about three hours before being discovered.
The child was rushed to the emergency room at the medical center and was briefly revived before succumbing to his injuries, police said.
Investigators determined that the child’s mother, 22-year-old Marylinn Feher, gave birth to the child earlier that morning at a home in the village of Milladore but did not take the child to a medical facility for treatment of his injuries. The nature of those injuries has not been disclosed.
Both parents were arrested and face charges in Wood County circuit Court of child neglect causing death. Police are also recommending homicide charges be filed against Feher, according to the release.
