WAUSAU — Peoples State Bank and Associated Bank are each contributing $100,000 to support the Woodson YMCA’s $21.5 million modernization and expansion project in downtown Wausau.

“These two very generous donations bring our fundraising total to $20,900,000, just $600,000 short of our $21.5 million project goal,” said Chad Kane, chairman of the organization’s capital campaign, in a YMCA news release. “We greatly appreciate these contributions … . They represent the tremendous commitment to our community that’s so prevalent among many of our area businesses.”

The $100,000 contribution from Associated Bank will fund the new Associated Bank Small Group Training Center at the Y, which will feature TRX and other small group exercise classes — and offer virtual active class availability for members when instructors are not scheduled.

Peoples State Bank’s donation of $100,000 will fund the new Peoples State Bank Consultation Room in the YMCA’s Wellness Center, where members can confer in private about their fitness and health goals with a personal trainer, a Y staff member or other health professional.

Kane said that although fundraising will continue until the final $600,000 is collected, Phase I and Phase II of the project are progressing right on schedule. Phase I includes a new Fieldhouse and The Landing Senior Activity Center. Phase II includes a new and expanded Child Care Center and a new state-of-the-art Wellness Center.
