WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

Heavy rains in central Wisconsin resulted in several road closures, while homeowners and businesses along the Wisconsin River and other tributaries are bracing for damaging floods.

The National Weather Service is reporting widespread flooding of between two to four feet at the D.C. Everest Park area, near the Schofield Dam, and the Oak Island Park area. Widespread flooding is also affecting areas along the Big Rib River and the Sherman Road area. Trails End Lodge, 3901 Sherman Road, is surrounded by flood waters, witnesses tell Wausau Pilot and Review.

As of 10:10 a.m. Thursday, the stage was 1,170 feet. Weather officials consider flood stage at 1,167 feet.

A flood warning is in effect for portions of central Wisconsin. In addition to flooding in the Wausau area, flooding is also affecting properties along the Embarrass River, impacting Waupaca and Shawano Counties.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation North Central Region office previously announced a closure on WIS 153 between Maple drive and WIS 49 in the Town of Elderon, Marathon County. That closure has been extended from Maple drive in the Town of Elderon to US 45 in the unincorporated community of Whitcomb. Water over the roadway has caused the full closure.

Hwy. 49 and U.S. Hwy. 45 northbound and southbound are still open to traffic.

Detour Information:

Take I-39 north to WIS 29. Take WIS 29 east to WIS 49. Take WIS 49 south back to WIS 153.
