The crawfish Po'-boy at J. Gumbo's in Wausau

WAUSAU — After nearly four years in downtown Wausau, the Cajun-style J. Gumbo’s restaurant will soon close, according to city officials.

The restaurant, located in the Third Street Lifestyle Center at 316 Third St., opened in August 2015. The fast casual chain operates restaurants in 12 states including Wisconsin. Wausau is the only Wisconsin location, however, and the future of the restaurant is unclear, as owners John Jacobs and Keith Malwitz are petitioning the city to keep J. Gumbo’s liquor license at least until the end of June.

The restaurant will close April 30.

The 3,900 square foot restaurant has a full bar and serves both Cajun and Creole foods, with an outdoor dining area during the summer months.

City officials will consider the request on Monday.
