John Muir Middle School teacher Ann Viegut received a Resolution of Commendation from the Wausau Board of Education after being named 2019 Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Council for Social Studies, according to a Wausau School District news release.
Viegut was nominated by John Muir Principal Larry Mancl. In his nomination, Mancl noted Viegut’s passion for her students, her colleagues and the success of our community.
“Ann is a remarkable professional, colleague, teacher, mentor, coach, leader, and champion for public education,” Mancl wrote. “Those who have crossed paths with Ann – both figuratively and literally, have come to appreciate her intelligence, insight, and her collaborative approach to writing curriculum, creating assessments, coordinating content speakers, and bringing regional and national resources to provide educational opportunities for our students. The ‘global’ approach Ann brings to providing opportunities for professional growth and being an important voice and listener when involved in building and district decisions complements the diversity of the Wausau School District.”
Viegut’s colleagues describe her as a consummate professional who exemplifies what the education profession needs from its educators: integrity, drive, passion, grit, resiliency, ingenuity, enthusiasm, and dedication. School officials say Viegut is genuinely committed to challenging herself intellectually – to use her knowledge and skills to engage students in academic rigor and relevance.
“By chance or by choice, we are fortunate Ann’s path has led her to 44 degrees, 57 minutes north latitude; 89 degrees, 39 minutes west longitude, 1,200 feet above sea level – a place we more commonly call Wausau,” Mancl wrote.
