State and local officials are warning residents about the threat of wildfires as fire danger remains high throughout central Wisconsin.

Strong, gusty winds are predicted for Friday, April 26 ahead of a storm front that could bring more wildfire activity, officials said. Fires have been cropping up throughout the area including a grass fire Friday in Kronenwetter that was quickly extinguished. The Department of Natural Resources responded to 12 fires yesterday.

DNR officials say fire danger is high to very high statewide. Residents should avoid burning – including using charcoal grills or other outdoor cooking devices – until rain or snow arrives and winds calm.
