Everest girls soccer flexes muscle in win over West

Weston — D.C. Everest picked up a pair of goals each from Maddie Simpson and Meghan Heil en route to a 6-0 shutout of Wausau West Friday.

With the win, the Evergreens (7-0-1, 4-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference) moved into the top spot in the league table. At 12 points, they share that spot with Wisconsin Rapids (4-1 WVC), which they beat 3-0 Thursday.

West is 0-3 in WVC play.

Simpson scored in the 18th minute on an assist by Sarah Lorge and in the 41st on an Elle Hersperger assist. Heil scored her goals in quick succession, getting one on a Dakota Corallo assist in the 38th minute and an unassisted tally in the 39th.

Emily Mittlesteadt also scored an unassisted goal in the 29th, and she assisted Maria Esker on Everest’s final goal, which came in the 48th minute.

With Everest pounding away at the goal all night, West goalie Andreanna Wilke saved 19 shots.  Sonja Budleski had a single save for the Evergreens.
