WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW:

Wausau— The Rev. Copeland D. Johnston has been elected Rector by the Vestry of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church (SBJ) upon the unanimous recommendation of the Search Committee.

Father Copeland is currently an academic at the University of Utah in the College of Humanities. He is an instructor in the Peace & Conflict Studies program and a curriculum administrator for other interdisciplinary programs that include Religious Studies. He has experience in elder care, family law, urban youth ministry liturgy and music (including singing tenor in the Utah Opera). He has served in urban, suburban and rural churches including cathedrals and small chapels. Copeland has a Master of Divinity degree from Seabury Western, Evanston, IL and a BA degree in history from the University of Utah. He will be moving to Wausau in mid-June.

St. John’s has been located in historic downtown Wausau since 1858. It is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Fond du Lac. SJB has Sunday Eucharist at 8 and 10 am (9 am on the first Sunday of the month and during the summer). SJB also hosts monthly meals for its downtown neighbors and opens the courtyard to the public for relaxation, meditation and solitude.
