There’s some good news coming out of our UW-Stevens Point at Wausau campus.
As a result of the recent merger with Point, our campus is offering six new professional associated degree programs in areas important to the community and society at large. They will begin next fall and include:
- Applied finance
- Environmental science and management
- Heath sciences
- Human services
- Information science
- Leadership and project management
Students can use these new offerings as a springboard to bachelor’s degrees at the main Stevens Point campus or they can transfer the credits to all University of Wisconsin institutions, including Madison.
These programs carry on the traditional mission of our Wausau campus — local access to high quality academics here, followed by the ability to transfer to a four-year campus to earn a full bachelor’s degree. (By the way, statistics show that students who start at Wausau do extremely well at those four-year institutions.)
There’s more: new Master of Business Administration and Master in Social Work programs will be offered through evening classes here next year — again designed to serve the professional and business needs of the Wausau area.
As a member of the UW Wausau Campus Foundation board of directors, which manages more than $160,000 in scholarships to deserving students each year, I’m encouraged to see these new university opportunities in our community. I’m reminded of “High School Musical,” that old film whose hit song was titled: “This could be the start of something new.”
