A 38-year-old Weston man is accused of holding a former girlfriend in a vehicle against her will and sexually assaulting her in an hours-long ordeal on Wausau’s near east side.

Antonio Maholmes, Jr. faces charges of second degree sexual assault with the use of force, false imprisonment, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting or obstructing an officer and bail jumping in two separate cases filed May 3 in Marathon County Circuit Court. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

An investigation began Monday, April 29 when a Wisconsin Rapids woman reported Maholmes forced her into a Hyundai Sonata, drove her from Wisconsin Rapids to Wausau, parked in the driveway of a relative’s house in the 700 block of McClellan Street, and pinned her between the driver’s seat and steering wheel before sexually assaulting her repeatedly for hours. The alleged assault happened during daylight hours and stopped only when an unidentified man approached and demanded Maholmes move the vehicle from the driveway.

Maholmes then allegedly drove the victim back to Wisconsin Rapids and was arrested hours later in Wood County during an unrelated incident. Once Maholmes was in custody, the alleged victim called police to report the rape.

He made an initial appearance Friday, May 3, where Circuit Judge Mike Moran ordered the cash bond.

Court records show Maholmes, a felon, has prior convictions for substantial battery, stalking, domestic abuse, escape, theft, criminal damage to property and an array of misdemeanor charges.

A review hearing has been set for May 13.
