RHINELANDER, Wis. — A Woodruff man accused of repeatedly asking a 15-year-old girl for sex had just completed a 3-year probation term for sending obscene photos and messages, according to a WJFW report.
Bradley Hilmer, 20, is facing charges of attempted sexual assault of a child and using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. According to a criminal complaint obtained by WJFW, Hilmer allegedly communicated online with a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl and asked her to participate in sex acts with him.
But the “girl” was really an undercover Oneida County Sheriff’s detective. Police say the contacts happened twice, starting in April. Police say Hilmer asked the undercover officer if he was being set up, adding “I don’t wanna go to jail.”
After his arrest, Hilmer told detectives he was “aware meeting a 15-year-old for sexual intercourse was wrong, but felt he had a sexual addiction,” according to the criminal complaint.
The two eventually agreed to meet up for sex in Minocqua on Monday night. Police arrested Hilmer when he showed up for an encounter at an area gas station. Hilmer had a backpack with condoms, lubricant, and a sex toy in his possession at the time of his arrest, police said.
In the earlier case, Hilmer was convicted in April 2016 to charges of sending obscene pictures and messages when accusations surfaced that he tried to lure teenage girls into his high school’s stairwells, in addition to sending them messages and pictures. That criminal complaint also noted HIlmer was involved in various other sexual crimes dating back to Jan. 2013 when he was a minor. Those cases were referred to social services, according to the WJFW report.
Circuit Judge Michael Bloom on Wednesday ordered Hilmer held on a $5,000 cash bond. Hilmer is also prohibited from having contact with anyone younger than 18 and is restricted from using the internet.
