Wausau — If the weather is nasty, there’s nothing like a mercy-rule victory to get a team home faster, and the first-place D.C. Everest Evergreens took less than 60 minutes to notch their eighth Wisconsin Valley Conference victory in as many tries.

The Evergreens (12-1-1 overall) took a little more than a minute to get their first goal, an unassisted score from Alanna Schneck. An 11th-minute own goal by West made it 2-0, and all-state forward Maddie Simpson got an assist from Rachel Burns in the 12th to make it 3-0.

Chloe Felch added two consecutive unassisted goals in the 28th and 29th minutes, while Elle Hersberger got one just before halftime off a Schneck assist.

Meghan Heil’s unassisted goal in the 47th made it 7-0, and Sarah Lorge added one just seconds after the restart on a Hersperger assist.

That same combo added a ninth goal sixth minutes later, and Brenna Raasch ended the game at 10-0 with an unassisted score in the 57th.

West goalie Diamond Rowlett had 11 saves, while Everest’s Sonja Budleski had 1.

West fell to 1-8 in WVC play with the loss, which came at Wausau West High School.
