WAUSAU — Metro Ride has received the 2018 Driver Incentive Award for medium-sized Wisconsin transit systems, the city of Wausau announced today.

The award program, sponsored by Transit Mutual Insurance, challenges similar sized transit systems to compete for the most miles between preventable accidents. In 2018, Metro Ride provided 423,000 miles of passenger service and had no preventable accidents, according to the city of Wausau. Metro Ride competed against transit systems in Janesville, Stevens Point, Manitowoc and Ashland.

Metro Ride received a cash prize of $500, which is to be used to recognize employees or enhance their work environment. Metro Ride was also recognized for completing a zero accident year and for having the most improved safety record compared to peer systems, the city said.

“This accomplishment is the fourth time that Metro Ride has won this same award,” said Mayor Mielke, in a city of Wausau news release. “It is with great pride that the city of Wausau’s transit system prioritizes its safety measures as they serve our community.”

Metro Ride is owned and operated by the city of Wausau.
