WESTON, Wis. — At least one person was shot in an early morning incident at a Weston tavern, multiple sources have confirmed.

Few details have been publicly released about the shooting, which happened at Big Dan & Space’s Kelly Club, 4810 Ross Ave., Weston. Police and rescue personnel were called to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired with an unknown number of victims involved.

When rescue crews arrived they found at least one person who was shot. That person was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The extent of the victim’s injuries and current condition has not yet been released.

Witnesses tell Wausau Pilot and Review that bar patrons tackled the alleged shooter and held him u til police could arrive.

Police say one person is in custody.

The tavern will be closed all of Sunday, May 12, according to the Kelly Club’s Facebook page.

Nearly nine hours after the shooting investigators are still at the tavern, which is surrounded by crime scene tape. A state crime lab truck also remained on scene at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Witnesses tell Wausau Pilot and Review at least two people had guns at the tavern when the shooting broke out.

Police blocked access to a portion of Ross Avenue for several hours early Sunday as the investigation into the shooting continued.
