The victim in a weekend shooting is still hospitalized as of early Monday and one suspect is in custody, according to Everest Metro Police Capt. Clay Schulz.

The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. May 12 at Big Dan & Space’s Kelly Club in Weston.

In a news release issued Monday, Schulz identified the suspect as 30-year-old Sergio Retana, Jr., of Weston, who is being held on charges of attempted first degree homicide, first degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm as a felon, carrying a handgun where alcohol is sold, operating a firearm while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon.

Retana is also subject to a probation hold, jail records show.

The details surrounding the shooting have not yet been released and a criminal complaint has not yet been filed. Witnesses tell Wausau Pilot an Review that about five or six shots were fired and that bar patrons subdued the suspect, holding him until police arrived minutes later.

The victim was rushed to Aspirus Wausau Hospital. His name and current condition have not been released.

Retana was initially due in court Monday for his first appearance, but that date may be pushed back to Tuesday, officials said.
