CLARK COUNTY, Wis. — One person is dead and a second person was flown by helicopter to Marshfield Medical Center following an apparent head-on collision early Tuesday near Neillsville, officials said.

The crash was reported at about 7:15 a.m. May 14 on Hwy. 73 near Schofield Road in the Clark County town of Weston. Officials say two vehicles appeared to have crashed into one another head on, with one vehicle blocking both northbound and southbound lanes when first responders arrived.

A second vehicle came to rest on the eastern shoulder of the road.

Both drivers, who were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, are from the Neillsville area, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. Their names are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

This is the third traffic fatality in Clark County so far in 2019.

The crash remains under investigation.
