Wausau — Abby Thompson scored two goals and Amaya O’Hearn got another to lead the Wausau East Lumberjacks to a 3-2 victory over rival Wausau West at Wausau East Tuesday evening.

“This is the first time in 10 years the Wausau East girls have brought The Rock back home,” said East head coach Melissa Murphy. “It’s a rock that has been passed back and forth to the winning team since 1996.”

For most of the game, it appeared that the trophy would stay with West, which got unassisted goals by Mallory Names in the 12th and 37th minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

Thompson narrowed the lead to 2-1 in the 43rd minute, but it wasn’t until the 73rd that East really got untracked. O’Hearn got an assist from Lillie Grace Faulkner to tie the score at 2-2, and Thompson then got an Emma Dehnel assist to give East its first and fnal lead in the 79th.

With the victory, East is now 4-4-1 (fifth place) in the WVC. West falls to 1-9 in the WVC, tied for sixth in the seven-team league.

Goalie Andreanna Wilke had seven saves for West, while Alexis Tate had six for East. East had 15 shots overall and 10 on goal, while West had 10 overall, including 8 on goal.
