Wausau – Ben Peloquin shot a medalist-round of 72 in the sixth round of the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys golf tournament Tuesday at Greenwood Hills and highlighted a strong day for D.C. Everest overall.

Peloquin had the low round by two strokes over Merrill’s Hunter Wallace and the Evergreens finished with the top team score of 328 to vault into first place overall with one round of the conference tournament left.

The final round will be held Friday at RiverEdge in Marshfield.

Everest shot a round of 328 and leads SPASH by half a point. The Panthers finished seven strokes behind the Evergreens on Tuesday and four strokes ahead of third-place Marshfield. The Tigers are just three points behind in the team race.

Merrill’s Russell Dettmering finished third overal with a round of 75 but remains in control of the individual race and is on the way to a third straight conference title.
