WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

A body has been recovered from the Chippewa River, near an area where two missing people were last seen.

Eau Claire police confirmed the discovery Friday but did not say whether the body was that of either of the two missing people.

James B. Liedtka, 28, has been missing since Nov. 4. The UW-Stout student was last seen walking behind an Eau Claire tavern toward a bike trail near the river’s edge. Several searches have been held for Liedtka both on land and on water.

Then on April 23, 17-year-old Williamefipiano G. Hessel, a high school senior, was swimming in the Chippewa River with friends  when he swam away from friends, then began struggling in the water. His friends called for help but searchers were unable to find him, according to police.

An update is expected on Monday.
