Weston — The No. 6-ranked team in Wisconsin’s Division 1 for girls’ soccer, D.C. Everest, took two shutout wins in an invitational tournament it hosted Friday and Saturday.

The Evergreens downed De Pere 1-0 Saturday morning. Sarah Lorge scored a goal in the 37th minute on an assist from Maddie Simpson.

De Pere, one of the tougher teams in Everest’s 17-team D-1 sectional, was expected to contend for one of the top half-dozen seeds in the sectional. A seeding meeting was held at the tourney before Saturday’s games started, but seedings for all four of the state’s divisional playoffs had not yet been posted by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association as of 11 p.m. Saturday.

De Pere had beat Wisconsin Rapids, the Wisconsin Valley Conference’s second-place squad, by a 1-0 score Friday night. Everest leads the WVC with a 10-0 record and plays Rapids, which still has a slim shot at the conference crown, in Rapids on Tuesday.

The Red Raiders, at 8-1-1, have 25 points in the WVC, while Everest has 30 and would have to lose both its remaining games to lose the title.

In the afternoon, Everest cruised by Notre Dame, the state’s No. 5 squad in Division 3 in last week’s polls.  All four goals came in the game’s first 31 minutes.

Lorge scored in the first minute on an assist from Olivia Fernstaedt.  Simpson scored an unassisted goal in the 9th and then another off an assist from Alanna Schneck in the 15th.

Lorge scored the final goal with an assist from Fernstaedt.

With the victories, Everest is now 18-1-1 on the season.
