Wausau — Marshfield’s Nina Hashimoto got a hat trick and Kate Schilling added a fourth goal, with all coming in the first half, to lead the Tigers to a 4-1 victory over Wausau West Tuesday.
After Mallory Names had given the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, Hashimoto and Schilling went to work. Hashimoto scored in the 14th and 24th minutes off of Schilling assists.
She added an unassisted goal in the 33rd, and then she assisted Schilling in the 39th to close out the scoring.
Andreanna Wilke had six saves in goal for West while Mikayla Brueggen had five for Marshfield.
Tigers head coach Steve Lindner said his team sharpened up its passing after a sluggish start and that he was pleased with his team’s final Wisconsin Valley Conference game.
“We need to re-focus on the playoffs and it is a new season now — win and move on,” he said. “We are very proud what we have accomplished so far but ther is much more to do.
“You have to credit Wausau West for playing hard throughout the game with very few subs. That can be a challenge any time.”
The Tigers finished their regular season 10-7-2 overall (6-4-2 and third in the WVC). As their regional’s No. 2 seed, they will host No. 7 seed Antigo May 27 at 5 p.m. A win means Marshfield would then host the Wausau East/Shawano winner Saturday, June 1.
Marshfield had defeated Shawano 10-1 in an out-of-conference tuneup on Monday, getting three goals from Hashimoto and two from Schilling. The Tigers also got goals from Nicole Simon, Courtney Meyere, Sophia Gruenling, Cassidy Kostad and Ana Paape.
Meyer, Hashimoto, Brueggen and Paige Preston each had one assist for Marshfield, while Brueggen and Ave Santeme each had a save in goal. Faith Lammers had 21 saves for Shawano.
Marshfield outshot Shawnao 33-2.
