WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

With winds gusting at more than 44 mph overnight, thousands of residents in central and north central Wisconsin are without power Wednesday morning.

Wisconsin Public Service reports that 27,654 customers are without power as of 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. About 3,300 of those outages are in the Wausau metro area, WPS reports. That’s down from a high of about 7,000 customers three hours earlier.

Eastern and southern Wisconsin residents are also experiencing significant power outages.

There’s no word on when power is expected to be restored, but crews have been working throughout the night. Wind speeds are expected to lessen on Wednesday, weather officials say.
