Police in Wausau are investigating a threat of a possible shooting Tuesday at John Muir Middle School in Wausau, according to a Wausau School District email sent to parents late Monday.
The email, sent to John Muir Middle School parents at 6:38 p.m. Monday, said investigators are looking into a social media “rumor” reported to the district in which a Snapchat poster claimed to have heard that “John mirror is getting shot up on Tuesday.”
After the Snapchat profile name was blocked out, a screenshot image of the content was shared and spread on Facebook before being reported to the social media outlet.
So far, no one has reported witnessing or hearing the rumored threat firsthand, the email to parents stated. No confirmation of the threat has been made and the author or originator of the content has not yet been identified.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Wausau Police Department at 715-261-7800.
“Since this rumor has not been substantiated nor has it been deemed credible at this time, classes will be held (Tuesday) at John Muir,” the email stated.
School officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday. This story will be updated.
