WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

The victim in an early morning crash Thursday on Hwy. 51 in the town of Maine has been identified as 23-year-old Felipe J. Valdonvinos Trejo, of Wausau.

According to the crash report, obtained by Wausau Pilot and Review, Valdonvinos Trejo was standing next to his vehicle, which was parked in the lane of traffic in the western southbound lane of Hwy. 51, when he was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Equinox.

Valdonvinos Trejo was pronounced dead at the scene about 30 minutes after the crash was reported. The driver of the Equinox, a 48-year-old Merrill woman, suffered minor injuries but was not transported for treatment.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash, though routine blood test results are pending. The crash report does not state why Valdonvinos Trejo’s vehicle was stopped on the road.

No citations were issued. The crash remains under investigation.

The crash was reported at about 4:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Hwy. 51 just north of Rainbow Drive in the Marathon County Village of Maine. Southbound traffic on Hwy. 51 was rerouted for more than five hours while investigators and emergency crews cleared the scene.
