A portion of First Avenue in Wausau, stretching from Thomas Street to Stewart Avenue, will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, June 3 to allow for a planned reconstruction of the roadway.
The project is being administered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. City officials say the closure is necessary to complete the reconstruction. A detour route will be posted, according to a city of Wausau news release.
The First Avenue reconstruction is one of six major road projects slated for 2019.
Construction on Thomas Street, from South Fourth Avenue east to the Wisconsin River Bridge, is already underway. Crews are also working on a large section of Townline Road from Grand Avenue to Easthill Drive.
The First Avenue project should be completed in November.
