Dear editor,

All of us who drive should be paying close attention to the debate in Madison over paying for our failing roads.

While a gas tax isn’t popular as a total solution, it does spread the burden to out-of-state drivers and heavy trucks. The current plan from the legislature exempts heavy trucks and takes revenue from citizen drivers through a hike in registration fees. As a result, only a portion of those who use our roads would be paying for the improvements. I don’t think that’s fair, and if you don’t either, contact your state legislator, now.
