WAUSAU ? When we turn on the faucets in our homes and businesses, we expect clean water to come out, and for most people in central Wisconsin, that’s the case. However, state officials say an estimated one in 10 rural wells in the state still have nitrate levels that are dangerously high.
At 10 a.m. today, June 13, “Route 51” host Shereen Siewert welcomes State Sen. Patrick Testin, R-Stevens Point, and State Rep. Scott Krug, R-Nekoosa, to discuss their efforts to tackle this public health risk.
Both legislators are sponsors of The Clean Water Health and Wellness Act. If passed, the bill will establish a pilot program to help rural well owners to test their water, then work with state officials on grant-funded remediation efforts.
