A loud door slamming was likely the cause of speculation on social media about possible shots fired at a home on Wausau’s west side, police said.

Neighbors close to a disturbance in the 1000 block of South 10th Avenue took to Facebook in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22, posting photos of a significant police presence in the area. Several residents reported hearing a gunshot.

But Wausau Police Capt. Ben Graham tells Wausau Pilot and Review there were no confirmed reports of shots fired in the area.

“Officers were dealing with a disturbance in that area and the slamming of doors by the one causing the disturbance could have been mistaken for gunfire,” Graham said, in an email to WP&R.

No additional details were immediately available.
