Rescue crews sent divers in the water Thursday afternoon after a kayaker reported discovering a submerged vehicle in the river near Schofield Park.

The report, called in at about 5 p.m., resulted in a major response to the park, which is off Burek Avenue on the city’s near northwest side.

Crews did not immediately see a vehicle in the water but the kayaker reported seeing the vehicle away from the boat landing in a place that cannot be easily viewed from shore. Barricades were set up to block access to the landing.

Authorities are unsure how long the vehicle has been in the water or whether anyone is inside.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
