WAUSAU — A 51-year-old man accused in a stabbing at the former Marjon Motel in Wausau is now in custody, police said early Tuesday.
Derrick Davis is facing preliminary charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, intimidating a victim and felony bail jumping. Davis was located at about 10:30 p.m., five hours after the stabbing, in the 200 block of Maple Street. Police say a tipster led them to Davis’ location.
At 5:33 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to former motel, which is now called Rocket Apartments, at 512 S. Third Ave., for a report that a man had been stabbed. Police say 25-year-old Camry Cooper suffered a single stab wound and was immediately transferred to a local hospital for emergent care.
Cooper remains hospitalized but is expected to recover from his injuries.
Court records show Davis, a Wausau resident with no permanent address, was set to make a plea deal July 15 in an open Marathon County child abuse case. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday on charges connected to Monday’s stabbing.
