A 15-year-old boy is in intensive care after being attacked with a baseball bat last week in Wausau, the boy’s mother tells Wausau Pilot & Review.

The mother of the victim said the attack happened just after 10 p.m. Monday, July 1 on Chicago Avenue in Wausau. The boy was walking home from a nearby gas station with another teen when he was allegedly attacked by a group of people that pulled up next to them in a vehicle, she said.

Emergency crews were called at about 10:30 p.m. to a home in the 600 block of Chicago Avenue for a report of a teen who was pulled inside and had been beaten with a baseball bat, according to emergency scanner archives.

The alleged victim is hospitalized where he remains in intensive care as of July 8. The boy underwent emergency surgery to remove a portion of his skull to relieve pressure from swelling on his brain, according to family members.

A Facebook fundraiser has been established to assist the family with expenses. Find the link here.
