Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has added three new ophthalmologists to its staff. They will begin seeing patients in early September at Eye Clinic locations throughout central and northern Wisconsin.

The incoming physicians will relocate to the Wausau area from across the United States, and are currently booking appointments for new patients.

Dr. John A. Flatter, an ophthalmologist with a focus on comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery, earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and completed his residency at Penn State Eye Center in Pennsylvania. He has served with World Blindness Outreach in the Dominican Republic, providing care for cataract and corneal transplant patients.

Dr. Afua A. Shin, an ophthalmologist specializing in corneal care and LASIK eye surgery, led an independent research project in Tokyo, Japan, before going on to complete her medical degree at Washington University in St Louis School of Medicine in Missouri. She completed her residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Ilinois, and her Cornea and External Disease fellowship at the University of California Davis.

Dr. Deepak Sambhara, an ophthalmologist specializing in medical retina and diseases of the vitreous, earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and completed his residency at Penn State Eye Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Sambhara spent additional time training at Duke Eye Center in North Carolina, where he completed his fellowship in Medical Retina and Diseases of the Vitreous Cavity, and was trained in cutting-edge techniques for diagnosing and managing retinal diseases.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Flatter, Dr. Shin, and Dr. Sambhara to the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin,” said Dr. David C. Tuman, president, in a news release. “What this means to our patients is that they will experience the same comprehensive, quality, and compassionate care the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has been providing for more than 50 years. We are confident that their extensive clinical education and knowledge – coupled with a strong passion for providing exceptional community-based care – will be a wonderful addition to our team and to all the communities in which we serve.”
