WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Marathon County until 11:30 a.m. Saturday as another storm is sweeping through the area.

Flood and severe thunderstorm watches have been issued for several central Wisconsin counties including Marathon County, according to the national weather service.

Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move across the region Saturday into Saturday evening. The storms could bring torrential rains falling at a rate of up to 3 inches per hour. Rainfall rates this high could result in localized flash flooding and ponding of water on area roadways. Rapid water rises and fast flows can be expected on small rivers, creeks and ditches.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, which can be a dangerous situation. Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action if necessary. Drivers are cautioned never to travel through flooded streets.

The thunderstorm watch is in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday, while the flood watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.
