The Wisconsin Department of Transportation provides weekly road construction updates for counties in north central Wisconsin: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara and Wood.

Adams County
Highway: WIS 82
Location: Between Juneau County line (Wisconsin River) and WIS 13
Schedule: July 10, 2019 to July 31, 2019
Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations during milling and paving operations.
Anticipate work scheduled for next week: Shoulder work, pavement marking, rumble strip and permanent sign installation.
Green Lake and Waushara counties
Highway: WIS 49
Location: WIS 23 to South street (Green Lake to Berlin)
Schedule: May 13, 2019 to October 15, 2019
Traffic impacts: Shoulders will be closed at various locations in addition to intermittent flagging operations between Forest Ridge Road and Berlin.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Milling and cold-in-place recycling between Forest Ridge Road and South Street in Berlin.

Langlade County
Highway: WIS 64
Location: 5th Avenue Road to County P
Schedule: July 8, 2019 to early August
Traffic impacts: WIS 64 will remain open to through traffic at all times. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during daylight hours with flagging operations. Motorists should be aware that lane shifts will be required at the culvert replacement areas while culvert work is taking place.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews plan to install the last culvert pipe near the west end of the project and replace beam guard on the west side of Elton. Crews also plan to begin milling and paving operations toward the end of next week starting at the west end of the project and proceeding easterly.
Lincoln County
Highway: WIS 64 (Bridge Maintenance)
Location: Bridge over the Prairie River, City of Merrill
Schedule: May 14, 2019 to early August 30, 2019
Traffic impacts: None.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Work schedule is to be announced for crack sealing of pier footing and rip-rap placement.
Highway: WIS 86
Location: Between Price County line (County YY) and the Wisconsin River Bridge in Tomahawk
Schedule: June 12, 2019 to October 17, 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 86 will be closed for two weeks starting on July 16, 2019 from County O to County E for culvert and cable barrier replacements. Local traffic will be allowed as signed. Traffic will be detoured via WIS 13, US 8, and US 51.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Beam guard and culvert pipe installation.
Highway: WIS 17 and WIS 86
Location:
- WIS 17 over Big Hay Meadow Creek between Merrill & Bloomville
- WIS 86 over Wisconsin River (Lake Mohawksin) in the City of Tomahawk
Schedule: July 16, 2019 to May 2020
Traffic impacts:
- Traffic on WIS 17 will be reduced to a single lane with the use of temporary traffic signals over Big Hay Meadow Creek.
- Traffic on WIS 86 will be reduced to a single lane with the use of temporary traffic signals over the Wisconsin River (Lake Mohawksin). Roadway will be reduced to 12 feet in this location.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Asphalt shoulder widening, temporary barrier wall installation, bridge deck milling, joint repair.
Marathon County
Highway: County WW (Local Project)
Location: Wisconsin River Bridge, Brokaw (Village of Maine)
Schedule: April 22, 2019 to May 22, 2020
Traffic impacts: Traffic is currently maintained on a single lane, 10.5 feet in width, on the existing bridge with temporary traffic signals. Half of the bridge deck will be removed and constructed. Traffic will be switched to Stage 2 on Monday, July 22. Traffic will be maintained on a single lane, 10.5 feet in width, on the new bridge with temporary traffic signals. The second half of the bridge deck will be removed and constructed.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Deck stripping, crack sealing and surface treatment application, concrete barrier, traffic control and pavement marking installation. Guardrail removal and deck removal.
Highway: WIS 153
Location: Andrys Lane to County J North
Schedule: July 8, 2019 to August 1, 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 153 will be open to through traffic at all times for the duration of this project. The project shall be constructed under traffic with the use of flagging operations.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Milling and asphalt paving.
Highway: WIS 29
Location: Eastbound WIS 29 to northbound US 51 ramp (near Menards)
Schedule: Construction was rescheduled for completion by July 24. Schedule is based on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
Traffic Impacts: While working on the eastbound WIS 29 to northbound US 51 system ramp, the ramp will be closed, and traffic will be detoured along eastbound WIS 52 to northbound US 51. A posted detour will be available. Message boards are in place notifying motorists of the detour.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Contractor anticipates closing the eastbound WIS 29 to northbound US 51 system ramp on the morning of Tuesday, July 23 to perform repair work to the polymer overlay placed last summer. Work is anticipated to be completed by the afternoon of Wednesday, July 24.
Marquette County
Highway: WIS 22
Location: Main & Montello Streets, 5th Street to N Junction WIS 23
Schedule: April 30, 2019 – July 2019
Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter periodic flagging operations that will temporarily close a single lane over each of these bridges at times during this work.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews plan to complete underwater repair work on the Montello River bridge pier.

Highway: WIS 23
Location: City of Montello
Schedule: April 15th, 2019 to November 15th, 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 23 is closed from Park street to Barry street. The intersection at Park street will be closed but intersection at Barry street will remain open.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Final grade and seed of the north half of the outfall basin. Water main and sanitary sewer installation on Stage 3 (Park Street to Barry Street).

Highway: WIS 82 and WIS 23

- WIS 82 (Adams/Marquette County line to Fandrich Street and Abbott Street to I-39)
- WIS 23 (I-39 to 8th Court)
Schedule: June 18, 2019 to August 30, 2019
Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect single lane closures and flagging operations during construction.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Final surface layer of asphalt is scheduled for July 22.
Oneida County
Highway: US 8 and WIS 47 intersection
Location: City of Rhinelander
Schedule: June 10, 2019 to October 18, 2019
Traffic impacts: Project currently has WIS 47 northbound and southbound traffic detoured around the intersection. Detour follows Boyce Drive and Kemp Street. Motorists will also encounter flagging operations, shoulder closures, and single lane closures. Map of detour can be found here: https://go.usa.gov/xyxEK
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Contractor will continue base course placement and grading as well as project tie-ins under flagging operations. Curb and gutter placement, sign base construction, paving after project tie-ins.

Oneida and Vilas counties
Highway: US 51
Location: 3rd Avenue to Tuckaway Drive
Schedule: Spring 2018 to November 2019
Traffic impacts: US 51 is reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction from Wallace Road to WIS 70. Traffic on US 51 is restricted to a 12-foot maximum width. Motorists should expect to encounter occasional flagging operations. Motorists are encouraged to consider using WIS 47 as an alternate route to avoid delays at peak tourist travel times.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews will complete cutting of subgrade and place the new gravel base, new curb and gutter and place the new sidewalk.

Portage County
Highway: Business 51
Location: Mac Arthur Way – Minnesota Avenue
Schedule: March 18, 2019 to Spring 2020
Traffic impacts: County HH at Lower Whiting Park is planned to be reopened on Wednesday July 24, 2019. An updated list of traffic impacts and detour updates for the week of July 22 is available at the website below on the Traffic Impacts & Schedule tab.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week. Crews will:
- Complete paving work in the new south bound lanes in the Business 51/County HH intersection
- Begin installing the new storm sewer system on the south bound lanes of Business 51 between County HH and Minnesota Avenue.
- Continue working on the new sanitary and water facilities around Tommy’s Turnpike.
- Continue working on the bridge over McDill Pond.

Highway: WIS 66
Location: At the bridge over the Plover River, between Country Club Drive and Ridge Road.
Schedule: July 15, 2019 to late September
Traffic impacts:
- Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures and a crossover on each side of the bridge with traffic shifted to the eastbound lanes. One lane in each direction on WIS 66 at the bridge will be maintained during construction.
- A regulatory speed limit reduction will be implemented with the project. The speed limit will be reduced from 40 mph to 30 mph.
- Motorists can expect a maximum lane width of 11 feet within the project limits.
- Motorists should expect congestion and delays during peak travel times and are encouraged to find alternate routes.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Traffic switch to the eastbound lanes. Crews will start deck removal on the bridge.
Shawano County
Highway: WIS 22
Location: Between County B and Zingler Street & Main Street and County BE
Schedule: July 15, 2019 to November 1, 2019
Traffic impacts: Motorists should expect single lane closures and 10’ lane widths on WIS 22 between County HHH/Airport Road and County BE. Rusch Road and Madison Way will be closed at WIS 22 the weeks of July 15th and July 22nd due to the configuration of WIS 22 traffic and construction safety. Single lane closures on WIS 22 between Main Street and County HHH will begin on July 22nd. In August 2019, WIS 22 will be closed for three weeks to complete the railroad crossing, a signed detour route will be installed.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews will finish building the temporary diversion channel, begin demolition of the north half of the existing Murray Creek box culvert, curb ramp replacement on east Green Bay street and begin construction of the north half of the new Murray Creek box culvert.

Waupaca and Wood counties
(Regionwide Culvert Replacement)
Highway: WIS 110
Location: Between Wolf River Drive and WIS 96 in Fremont
Schedule: July 8, 2019 to November 1, 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 110 – Wolf River Bridge: Motorists can expect to encounter one lane crossing the bridge with temporary signals from July 8 thru mid-October with a maximum 14-foot width restriction.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Crews will continue working on deck preparation of the northbound lanes on the bridge. Crews will remove the bridge expansion joints of the northbound lanes at the end of the week.
Waupaca County
Highway: WIS 22 bridges
Location: Wautoma – Clintonville, at bridges over:
(1) South Branch of the Little Wolf River
(2) Crystal River and
(3) Wisconsin Central Ltd. (CN) RR tracks
Schedule: May 14th, 2019 to August 2nd, 2019
Traffic impacts: Southbound lane closures on all three bridges. WIS 22 will remain open to traffic in both directions. Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and temporary traffic signals.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week, crews will:
- Pave approaches at all three bridges
- Remove crash cushions and barrier wall with lane closures being maintained with barrels
- Deck sealing
- Removal of temporary traffic signals and temporary pavement marking tape at all three bridges
- Install permanent pavement marking and removal of traffic control items
Highway: WIS 156
Location: WIS 22 to Shawano County Line
Schedule: June 10, 2019 to October 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 156 will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic at all times. Temporary traffic signals will be used on the bridge over the Wolf River.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Crews will began removing bridge painting containment on the west half of the WIS 156 bridge over the Wolf River. Crews will continue grading and install surface drains by the WIS 156 bridge over the Embarrass River. Crews will continue replacing culvert pipes on WIS 156 between County Y and Ashley road.
Waushara County
Highway: WIS 49 (NEW)
Location: Green Lake County Line to WIS 21 (Berlin to Auroraville)
Schedule: July 22, 2019 to August 29, 2019
Traffic impacts: WIS 49 will remain open to traffic with intermittent flagging operations. Traffic will be restricted to one lane during daytime hours only. The driving surface may be gravel or milled at times during the culvert replacement and pavement resurfacing work.
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Traffic control setup, staking, sawing, erosion control setup, prep for lane shifts for culvert replacement, and culvert replacement approximately ¼ mile south of County X.
Wood County
Highway: WIS 54
Location: City of Wisconsin Rapids, 2nd Avenue South
Schedule: July 8, 2019 to August 26, 2019
Traffic impacts: Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction between the roundabout and WIS 13 (Riverview Expressway).
Anticipated work schedule for next week: Storm sewer inlet relocation, crews will start work on electrical for the street lights, and begin grading for the widening.
Highway: WIS 97 (Central Avenue)
Location: Between Arnold street and Harrison street, City of Marshfield
Schedule: May 1, 2019 to August 29, 2019
Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter one-lane traffic in each direction on WIS 97 between Arnold street and Harrison street. Crews will be working on the inside travel lanes of WIS 97 between Arnold street and Harrison street. Pedestrian access to businesses and schools will be maintained during construction.
Anticipated work scheduled for next week: Crews will mill the asphalt pavement off the outside lane on the east side from Arnold street to Harrison street and remove concrete for base patch areas. Crews will saw concrete and begin pouring concrete for the base patches.

Highway/Location:
- Lincoln County: WIS 17
- Marathon County: WIS 153 and WIS 52
- Shawano County: WIS 22, WIS 47 and WIS 156
Schedule: July 15, 2019 through August 21, 2019
Traffic impacts: Each structure throughout the project will have temporary signals, stop signs, or flaggers. None of the structures throughout the project will be completely closed to traffic. Traffic will experience minor delays.
Anticipate work scheduled for next week:
- July 22, 2019:
- WIS 153 Marathon County, bridge over unnamed branch of Big Eau Pleine River east of Stratford.
- WIS 153 Marathon County, bridge over Little Eau Pleine River. Starting in the westbound lane.
- July 23, 2019:
- WIS 153 Marathon County, bridge over unnamed branch of Big Eau Pleine River east of Stratford
- WIS 153 Marathon County, bridge over Little Eau Pleine River. Finishing eastbound lane.
