MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan has donated $1,000 to a new female troop of the Boy Scouts of America formed in the Marshfield area for females between the ages of 11 and 17. This is the first time in the 100-year history of Boy Scouts of America, young women are able to join the organization.
The money will go to Troop 9392. Each month Security Health Plan awards a $1,000 grant to a charity or organization that is nominated by a Marshfield Clinic Health System employee. Employees are encouraged to nominate organizations making a positive difference in the community.

Julie Degner serves on the committee for the troop, formed in February, and said the young women are working to strengthen their individual character, citizenship, leadership, mental fitness and physical fitness.
“My role is to help the troop be successful,” Degner said. “This group of young women has worked in various ways since the troop’s formation to benefit the greater Marshfield community. These young women will grow in their duty to country and themselves. As part of this organization, they spend time volunteering and giving back to the community. They also focus on their fitness and general health as part of the organization.”
Degner said money from the grant will be used to buy equipment, such as tents, first aid kits and cooking equipment, needed for some of their scouting activities.
