WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

WAUSAU, WI – The Wisconsin Woodchucks and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters each won a game during Sunday’s doubleheader matchup.

The Woodchucks won the first game by a final score of 4-2. Playing as the home team hitting in the bottom half of each inning, the Woodchucks scored first in the fourth. Wisconsin Rapids loaded the bases and walked two runs in to give the Woodchucks an early 2-0 lead.

That lead increased in the fifth after Angel Tiburcio and Lawrence Cicileo each drove in a run with an RBI double. The two run-scoring base hits made the score 4-0 with the Woodchucks leading.

The Rafters threatened by scoring two runs in the seventh and final inning, but could not match the Woodchucks run total. The Chucks won the first game but were not able to sweep the twin-bill.

The Rafters won the second game by a final score of 4-0. Woodchucks pitcher Robert Wegielnik started the second game on the mound. He pitched five and two-thirds innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits. Wegielnik walked three and struck out five.

The two teams will play yet another doubleheader just a few days from now. On Wednesday, the Woodchucks will host the first game at 11:35 AM while the Rafters will host the second game at 7:05 PM.
