WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

Three buildings at Monk Botanical Gardens were broken into Monday, resulting in significant damage and vandalism to the space.

Vandals took an axe to windows and walls, the organization said. The suspects also sprayed fire extinguishers over equipment in the garage and basement, areas that stored supplies for education programs. Most of the damage is being reported at Monk Gardens’ newly acquired and recently renovated.

The organization has several weeks of their summer camp program and about six field trips booked in the coming weeks, along with other programs and events. The destroyed supplies were necessary to run those programs.

Now, Monk Gardens is appealing to the public for help, asking for donations to keep programs running.

Visit the Monk Gardens Facebook page or home page for details on how to donate, or mail checks to 518 S. Seventh Ave., Wausau, Wis. 54401.
