ANTIGO — Waukesha Bearings will expand its Antigo manufacturing facility on Amron Avenue to nearly 100,000 square feet, the company announced this week.

This designer and manufacturer of engineered hydrodynamic bearings and magnetic bearing systems was founded in Waukesha in 1946 and has been a part of the Antigo community for the last 45 years.

The bearings manufactured in Antigo are used in turbomachinery across the world’s oil and gas, power generation, marine and industrial markets.

The additional 35,000 square feet of manufacturing space will accommodate current production for marine bearing systems, as well as new marine projects awarded to the company by General Dynamics Electric Boat of Groton, Connecticut. The Waukesha Bearings partnership with Electric Boat and the U.S. Navy goes back more than 50 years and includes bearing systems for both the surface fleet and submarines, according to Waukesha Bearings.

“Our team here in Antigo takes great pride in the product we produce, and we are thrilled to be expanding our capacity,” said John Sullivan, plant manager for the Antigo facility, in a news release.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 8. Work is expected to be completed by January 2020.
